February 12 Lev.10-12 & Rom. 2:17-3:20

I was ready for these chapters. I had been wondering about the priests. So we here, “You must be able to distinguish between what is sacred and what is profane, and between what is clean and what is unclean; and you must be able to teach the Israelites all the statutes that the LORD has given them through Moses.” Do you remember John the Baptist ate grasshoppers, now we know that was not as bad a thing as we might have thought. This lines from Leviticus also struck me, “For I, the LORD, am your God. You shall make and keep yourselves holy, because I am holy. You shall not make yourselves unclean, then, by any swarming creature that crawls on the ground. Since I, the LORD, am the one who brought you up from the land of Egypt that I might be your God, you shall be holy, because I am holy.” It may be good for us to remember who our God is and what he has done for us.

If you think about it, one of the principal gifts of Jesus was that he showed us how to be children of God. So Paul challenges us all to be good examples of Christ when he says, “You who preach against stealing, do you steal? You who forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob temples? You who boast of the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? For, as it is written, Because of you the name of God is reviled among the Gentiles.” May God’s name be praised in every word and deed we live.
