April 3 1 Samuel 18-20 & 1 Corinthians 13

It is not easy to trust God, Saul didn’t, and it was to his demise. Then with David’s rise in favor of the people, he becomes jealous. How do you bow gracefully before other’s gifts? How do you support the “new guy” to use their gifts and talents?

The ending of Corinthians 12:31b, “But I shall show you a still more excellent way,” sets us up for the awesome gift of Chapter 13. Yes, it is used for more weddings than not, and you may be tired of it, but it is just too perfect. And If a couple doesn’t use it, I make them do a reflection on it as a part of their marriage preparation. While married couples are called to witness to this love of God sacramentally, love among friends also reflects the love 1 Cor. 13. You heard this in David and Jonathan’s love for each other. So guess what? It is time for you to meditate on the whole chapter you may focus on married love or love of a friend and then you and our Lord Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit write to God the Father your heartfelt thoughts on the gift of God’s love in this relationship he has blessed you to live. 1 Cor.13:13b, “…I put aside childish things,” may we put on the mature Christ Jesus and live in his love.
