February 24 Numbers 8-10 & Romans 15

The Levites were dedicated to the service of God, “For they (Levites), among the Israelites, are totally dedicated to me…” Those in our Church that are ordained or take religious vows are also totally dedicated to the service of God. While they do get to retire earlier than I do, I guess that makes sense since life expectancy has probably changed in the course of 3000+ years since the Exodus. “Everyone twenty-five years old or more shall join the personnel in the service of the tent of meeting. But everyone fifty on up shall retire from the work force and serve no more. They shall assist their fellow Levites in the tent of meeting in performing their duties, but they shall not do the work.” Whether you are ordained, vowed in religious life or marriage or committed to the single state, we are all called to reflect our God’s presence in the world. How are you at the service of God? Moses would say at the start of the day’s journey, “Arise, O LORD, may your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you.” This is my prayer for you as you start your day.

As Paul went from city to city as with the Roman’s, he wishes to build up unity among the peoples. He said, “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Paul concluded this chapter by saying, “The God of peace be with all of you. . .” and I add as you build up the people you meet today in harmony with Jesus and each other. Amen.
