March 22 Judges 6-8 & 1 Cor. 4

Gibeon was a reluctant prophet for Israel. He was also pretty obnoxious with the Lord. Wow. The Lord does have broad shoulders. He takes Gibeon and allows him to voice his frustrations and doubts. But the Lord is calling Gibeon to service, and the Lord gets what the Lord wants. God clothes Gibeon with his spirit enabling him to lead the people against Midian. The test Gibeon is to use to choose what men are to fight is one of the famous sayings of the Book of Judges. You may ask why did God want the ones that used their hands to drink because such men are prepared to fight. They did not allow their thirst to overwhelm them to the point of neglecting their awareness of what is going on around them. May we too be more and more attentive to the goings on around us, that is, what is of God and what is not.

Paul was calling us not to judge. 1 Corinthians 4:12b-13 we hear “When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we respond gently. We have become like the world’s rubbish, the scum of all . . .” Paul had the heart of Christ may we imitate him and thus show Christ to the world.
